Castle Donington Community First Responders are a volunteer group that give up their spare time to attend 999 calls directly under the control of East Midlands Ambulance Service.
First Responder schemes operate nationwide, with Castle Donington being one of many throughout Leicestershire and the East Midlands. Community First Responders (CFRs) are there to provide assistance to those with a medical emergency, and most importantly to start and maintain the chain of survival until a fully equipped ambulance arrives.
Community First Responders receive comprehensive training from the ambulance service providing them with the knowledge, skills and equipment necessary to respond to a range of life threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrests, strokes, breathing difficulties, heart attacks and severe allergic reactions.
When an emergency 999 call is received, the `on-call` Community First Responder is despatched at the same time as an ambulance response. As each volunteer lives or works within our local community, a First Responder can be on scene with a patient in a matter of minutes providing vital life saving treatment while ambulance crews travel to them.
